Cognitive Therapy & Yoga workshop, with Vibrational Work

with LMHC J. Powell and Sound Healer Lele N

Many people have heard of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and even Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). These therapies intervene on our thinking processes to promote healing. Originally, yoga was more of a thought and action- based

practice than a workout one, like what we often think of today when we go to a “yoga class”.

Likewise, we don’t often think of therapy as deeply spiritual, but originally it was focused on reprogramming the subconscious and helping people feel like they had more agency in their lives, ultimately towards “mastering” the ego and reaching “eternal life.” Psychotherapy may not have the same end goal per se, yet yoga and therapy have many overlapping processes

of change.

In this workshop, we’ll look at what cognitive therapy is, explore the system of yoga, and consider how the two work together. We will also engage in an asana series focusing on cognition, and infuse these elements with vibrational work (sound healing), to amplify the positive soothing impact of these techniques on the parasympathetic system.

You will leave with a few new considerations to help you in your yoga practice, some skills to try, and a greater understanding of what mindfulness really is.

Neuroscience, Radical Behaviorism, and even Quantum science have taught us a lot about thoughts, emotions, and change. Where did ancient yogic sages get it right, and where were they off? When we tap into both ancient wisdom and modern psychology, we gain deeper insight into what it means to practice yoga.

You will need comfortable clothes, yoga mat, and water.
